Room 12's persuasive writing.

In Room 12 we are learning how to get others to see things our way through persuasive writing.

We discussed the pros and cons of whether it is a good idea to have hot chocolate in the drinking fountains instead of water. Then we looked at varied ways to start our sentences and how to give lots of reasons to convince our audience. Here are two samples of our work:

Hot chocolate drinking fountains

By Jemma

We should not have hot chocolate in the drinking fountains at school.

A special visitor to Rooms 11, 12 and 25

Rooms 11, 12 and 25 were very lucky to have Mr Iverson visit us in Week 3. He is involved in organising the Rugby World Cup and he told us about the huge amount of detail and planning needed to stage this gigantic event.

We got to see one of the rugby balls that will be used, and we learned how many people will be helping (60,000!)

Room 12's Science Event Display!

The students of Room 12 did a superb job of planning and preparing for the science event. Featured in their display were:

-The results of the silverbeet experiment - 'Zoo Doo' compost was the best at growing tall silverbeet.

-An edible hanging garden.

-An enchanted miniature garden with magical stones and a miniature man fishing in a miniature pond, surrounded by an edible lentil, carrot and beetroot-shoot forest.

Room 12's Trip to Arataki Visitor Centre

We had a great day out learning about New Zealand's plants, life cycles, and how seeds move.

We learned that the early settlers who worked in the bush used to use rimu leaves as a comb.

It works quite well!
