Learning

This video is an example of how you should read with your child in a way that supports the teaching done at school. As you watch Rachael, look for instances of the "parent" (Rachael), employing the 'Pause, Prompt, Praise' strategy.
Pause - wait three seconds when a child makes a mistake. This allows them time to try a strategy their teacher has taught them.
Prompt - Suggest a strategy they can use, e.g. "try that sentence again", "what is the beginning sound you can see"....
Praise - Give them specific feedback when they use a strategy by themselves, e.g. "I love the way you realised it didn't make sense and tried it again another way."
