Book Week 2010
We've had lots of fun this year with Book Week...
Visitors
Author Melinda Szymanik came to talk to Year 4, 5 and 6 students. Melinda wrote The Were-Nana, winner of last year's NZ Post Children's Choice Award. She had lots of advice for our budding authors and very kindly stayed on to answer questions and sign numerous autographs!
Year 1, 2 and 3 children were entertained by illustrator Ross Kinnaird. Ross has worked on numerous children's books, including Why do dogs sniff bottoms?, Where do flies go in winter? and Cindy and the lost jandal. There was much amusement as Ross whipped up wacky pictures of the teachers and crazy animal creations. Some of these will soon adorn the Library walls so keep a look out for them.
We were also very lucky to be visited by new author Anna Gowan. Anna's first novel, Hollie Chips, won the 2009 Tom Fitzgibbon Award.
Who's Reading That?
This year's Book Week competition had children guessing which teacher was hiding behind which book. In most cases, the book cover gave the secret away and there were lots of correct entries. Maia Hooper from Room 14 was the lucky winner of a Borders book voucher.
Design A Bookmark
So many beautiful bookmarks were produced by the children - choosing the best was almost impossible! However, we finally narrowed it down to the following winners (two from each syndicate): Emilie Gordon, Max Wiffen, Jack Cresswell, Caitlin Leslie, Ben Lewens and Connor Shaw. Congratulations. The finalists' bookmarks are currently on display in the Library foyer.
Book Character Parade
What stunning costumes! Teachers had a great deal of trouble choosing just one winner from each syndicate, but eventually they decided on Connor McIntyre, Sean Corrigan and Jessica Houlding. These three also received Borders book vouchers.
Thanks very much to everyone for making Book Week such a success, once again!
