Maths

At Greenhithe School, we aim to develop confident and capable mathematicians who can apply their learning to everyday situations and real-life contexts. Our mathematics programme is aligned with the New Zealand Curriculum and covers key learning areas, including number, algebra, measurement, geometry, statistics, and probability.

Mathematics lessons are designed to be engaging, interactive, and meaningful. Students build a strong understanding of mathematical concepts through the use of hands-on materials, group discussions, and practical activities. Lessons include a balance of explicit teaching, rich tasks, and opportunities for students to explore concepts deeply through questioning, making conjectures, identifying patterns, and providing mathematical proof.

We incorporate the Oxford University Maths programme to support and enhance our teaching. This resource offers a clear, structured progression and high-quality materials that complement our problem-solving approach and help reinforce students’ learning.

Our goal is to nurture mathematical thinking, foster curiosity, and equip students with the skills they need to succeed both in the classroom and beyond.
