Principal’s News

Dear Parents,

Thank You for Supporting Cross Country!
A huge thank you to all the parents and whānau who came along to help and support our year 3 – 6 Cross Country, event last week. We were blessed with beautiful weather, and it was wonderful to see the children embracing our PRIDE values and giving it their all! A special thanks to our generous sponsors and the PTA for keeping everyone fuelled with delicious sausage sizzles and warm coffees—your contributions truly made the day even more enjoyable. Please remember to come along to our year 1 and 2 Cross Country on Monday 16th June, from 1.50pm to 2.45pm on our school field.

Kai and Kōrero Evening – Tonight!
We’re excited to be welcoming 90 parents this evening for our Kai and Kōrero event. It’s fantastic to see such strong community engagement.
Tonight’s session will include valuable information on literacy, maths, and the refreshed curriculum. We’re also privileged to have Josie Wall from Te Kawerau ā Maki joining us to share about our local iwi. The evening will begin at 5:45pm in the school hall. If you haven’t returned your RSVP, don’t worry; please feel free to come along and join us. Our incumbent principal, Andrea Clarke, will also be there on the night.

Health and PE Curriculum Consultation
Every two years, we seek your input into our Health and Physical Education programme and once again, our community has shown great support. Over 100 responses were received; thank you!
The feedback shows that our whānau are very happy with what we offer at Greenhithe School, though a few areas have been highlighted for future development. A summary of your responses will be available to view during tonight’s Curriculum Evening and will also be shared with our Board shortly.

Pōwhiri for Andrea Clarke

We are excited to announce that on Monday 16th June at 10:00am, Greenhithe School will be holding a pōwhiri to formally welcome Andrea Clarke, who will be joining us as our new principal in Term 3. This is a significant occasion in our school’s journey, as we welcome Kaukapakapa visitors to our school. Please note that space may be limited, and there may be standing room only.

To all of our Greenhithe families, thank you for your continued support, time, and involvement in school life.

Pride Values at Greenhithe School

Our PRIDE values: Perseverance, Respect, Initiative, Diligence and Excellence are important learning opportunities. We continue to refer to these during class activities and when working and playing with others. The following children have been awarded certificates: Brayden Han, Ava Zhong, Emmu Hu, Emily Swanson, Charlie Reeves, Hajun Oh, Mia Hamilton, Declan Barnes and Frankie Clarkson.

School Donations and Activity Contributions

We have had a great response to contributions towards school donations so far this year. THANK YOU. Please consider making your donation if you haven’t done so already.

Our Classroom Activity Contribution fees in term 2 will help pay for the external education company ‘Footsteps Dance Company’. They will be helping the students prepare for our upcoming show in term 3. We would be most grateful if these contributions could be made.

Our 2025 contribution requests remain unchanged from last year and are as follows:

School Donation – $55 per term or $220 for the whole school year.  The amount for 3rd or subsequent children will remain at $37.50 per term or $150 for the whole school year.

Classroom Activity Contributions – $40 per term or $160 for the whole school year.

Kindo is our preferred method for all your school payments. If you are a new family to Greenhithe School or you were unable to set up an account last year, please find all the information you need on our school website.

Ngā mihi

Acting Principal

Even on a rainy day, our road patrollers for Terms 3 and 4 are having a refresher with Constable Tania Wansink. Thank you to all our parents who are supporting our road patrollers for Terms 3 and 4. We could not operate our crossings without you!

A THANK YOU to all our Terms 1 and 2 parents for being out there in the sun, wind and rain, ensuring that our road patrollers are safe!

Community Connections

Greenhithe is a MITEY School

At Greenhithe School we are mentally healthy and feel a sense of belonging when we feel respected, valued and heard. Ideas and well being are valued, ensuring that everyone feels supported and appreciated.

Time is taken to build and nurture relationships.

Kaitiaki Group

Our Kaitiaki have been designing a new habitat in our Bug Shelter area. They have been identifying the types of fungus and what insects might feed off of it. The group has decided to build a log pile that will eventually rot and provide shelter and nutrients for the creatures that will live there.

Bringing Stories to Life: Year 4 & 5 Dive into the Art of Shadow Puppetry

This term, our creative Year 4 and 5 students embarked on a magical journey into the world of shadow puppets. They kicked things off with hands-on experiments, discovering how shadows are formed and how light and distance can transform them, setting the stage for deeper learning.

Curiosity sparked, the classes explored the fascinating history of shadow puppetry, learning where this ancient art form began and how traditional puppets were crafted by hand.

With inspiration flowing, it was time to roll up their sleeves! In small groups, the students selected a Matariki story and set about designing their own puppets—no templates allowed! They sketched, refined, and recreated characters and scenery, using only their imaginations and teamwork to bring their chosen tales to life.

Next, the children will continue to practice using their puppets in class. The grand finale. The children will present their Matariki plays in their classroom, sharing culture, creativity, and storytelling in a truly unforgettable way. Take a look at some of the fun photos from Room 20.

Greenhithe School PTA

Who We Are:

The Greenhithe School PTA is a passionate group of parents and teachers who work together to support the school by fundraising for much-needed items. These funds are put towards items such as playground upgrades, sports equipment and uniforms, and new resources.

We meet most months on a Tuesday from 7pm to discuss all things related to our fundraising activities and provide a forum for community feedback. Our ultimate goal is to continue to grow and nurture the great positive community we have within the school and wider Greenhithe.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate, and even if you can’t make the meeting, assisting at a PTA-supported event is super helpful!

Thanks, Sjaan and the Greenhithe PTA

Term 2 Sports Highlights

Term 2 has been full of exciting sporting events and amazing participation from our students! We kicked things off with the Rippa Rugby Tournament, where over 70 of our tamariki took part. It was a fantastic day filled with energy, teamwork, and excellent sportsmanship all around.

More recently, our Year 3–6 students competed in the School Cross Country. It was inspiring to see so many children give it their all and support each other through the course. We’re incredibly proud of every student who participated.

A huge thank you to Ray White Carpenter and Jadyn Dixon for generously sponsoring our prizes, providing free coffee, and letting us use their large gazebo—it made a big difference! We also extend our gratitude to the PTA for keeping everyone well-fed with a sausage sizzle, and to our amazing staff for all their hard work behind the scenes.

Ka pai, everyone!
