Principal’s News

Dear Parents

Pōwhiri to Welcome Mrs Andrea Clarke

On Monday morning, we held a beautiful pōwhiri to warmly welcome our new principal, Mrs. Andrea Clarke, to Greenhithe School. It was a special occasion filled with mana and connection, setting a positive tone as she prepares to begin her journey with us in Term 3.

Our students, Kapa Haka group, and House Leaders were outstanding, embodying the true spirit of our Greenhithe PRIDE values. We are excited to have Mrs. Clarke join our whānau and look forward to the next chapter in our school’s journey under her guidance.

Freaky Friday Disco
What a fantastic evening we had at the Greenhithe Freaky Friday Disco! It was a night full of fun, laughter, and dancing, a truly memorable event for all our students.

A huge thank you to our amazing PTA for organising another successful event and to our fabulous DJs, Katie Barnston-Wells and Amy Kimi Makata, for bringing the energy and playing such great dance music. The students had an absolute blast!

We also want to thank all the parents for your ongoing support, your involvement helps make these special events possible.

Thank you for supporting the year 1 and 2 Cross Country!
A huge thank you to all the parents and whānau who came along to help and support our year 1-2 Cross Country, on Monday afternoon. We were blessed with beautiful weather, and it was wonderful to see the children embracing our PRIDE values and giving it their all! A special thanks to the PTA for supplying ice lollies to help our students cool down!

Parking Reminder

Please ensure that you do not park on the yellow dashed lines or across driveways. We have residents who may need to leave, so please be aware of our local community.

Pride Values at Greenhithe School

Our PRIDE values: Perseverance, Respect, Initiative, Diligence and Excellence are important learning opportunities. We continue to refer to these during class activities and when working and playing with others. The following children have been awarded certificates: Isabelle Partridge, April Zhang, Elena Shi, Michael Xu, Lana Niuellua, Levi Zhang, Felix Chen and Harper Beshara.

School Donations and Activity Contributions

We have had a great response to contributions towards school donations so far this year. THANK YOU. Please consider making your donation if you haven’t done so already.

Our Classroom Activity Contribution fees in term 2 will help pay for the external education company ‘Footsteps Dance Company’. They will be helping the students prepare for our upcoming show in term 3. We would be most grateful if these contributions could be made.

Our 2025 contribution requests remain unchanged from last year and are as follows:

School Donation – $55 per term or $220 for the whole school year.  The amount for 3rd or subsequent children will remain at $37.50 per term or $150 for the whole school year.

Classroom Activity Contributions – $40 per term or $160 for the whole school year.

Kindo is our preferred method for all your school payments. If you are a new family to Greenhithe School or you were unable to set up an account last year, please find all the information you need on our school website.

Community Connections

Greenhithe is a MITEY School

At Greenhithe School we are mentally healthy and feel a sense of belonging when we feel respected, valued and heard. Ideas and well being are valued, ensuring that everyone feels supported and appreciated.

Time is taken to build and nurture relationships.

Histories Group

We have been reading about and considering how it would have been like for early Māori settlers first arriving in New Zealand and without many tools to catch food. We are thinking about how to make a spear, hook or net from what we have available in our Nature Garden.

Exploring Endangered Animals in STEAM – Year 3’s Creative Conservationists!

This term in STEAM, our curious and compassionate Year 3 students have been diving into the fascinating world of endangered animals. Their journey began with exploring what it means for a species to be endangered and investigating the threats, such as habitat loss, climate change, and poaching, that have led to this status.

Focusing on orangutans, kiwis, tigers, and African forest elephants, students studied each animal’s natural environment and behaviours, learning what makes their habitats so important and unique.

Inspired by real-world conservation efforts in zoos, the children put their knowledge into action by designing zoo enclosures that support animal well-being. They considered how to replicate natural habitats, encourage natural behaviours, offer enrichment to keep animals mentally stimulated, and ensure both safety and privacy.

Working collaboratively in small groups, our young designers created detailed plans and brought them to life through hands-on dioramas. Using a variety of craft and natural materials, they constructed creative, thoughtful models of their enclosures—and had a fantastic time doing it!

Take a look at some of the pictures of Room 30. The care, creativity, and teamwork shown in these projects are a testament to how much our students have learned—and how deeply they care about protecting our planet’s wildlife.

Amazing STEAM learning for the year 3 students at Greenhithe School!

Greenhithe PTA

Greenhithe School PTA

Who We Are:

The Greenhithe School PTA is a passionate group of parents and teachers who work together to support the school by fundraising for much-needed items. These funds are put towards items such as playground upgrades, sports equipment and uniforms, and new resources.

We meet most months on a Tuesday from 7pm to discuss all things related to our fundraising activities and provide a forum for community feedback. Our ultimate goal is to continue to grow and nurture the great positive community we have within the school and wider Greenhithe.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate, and even if you can’t make the meeting, assisting at a PTA-supported event is super helpful!

Thanks, Sjaan and the Greenhithe PTA

Interschool Cross Country

Despite the rain and muddy conditions, our amazing runners gave it their all at the Interschool Cross Country! Every student showed determination, grit, and great sportsmanship as they powered through the challenging course. The tough weather didn’t slow them down—in fact, it made their success even more impressive. We are so proud to share that we won overall points on the day! A huge congratulations to all our competitors—you did us proud!
