Attendance

Every School Day Counts!

At Greenhithe School we have a 90% attendance goal for all students. This means aiming for no more than 20 days of absence per school year. This is the minimum required to ensure your child has the best possible chance of success.

Why Attendance Matters So Much

Consistent attendance is the single most important factor in a child’s educational success. When a student is regularly present, they:

  • Don’t Miss Key Learning: Every lesson builds on the last. Missing just two days a month adds up to an entire month of missed schooling by the end of the year!
  • Build Strong Habits: Showing up on time prepares them for success in future education and the workplace.
  • Stay Connected: Regular attendance builds essential social skills, friendships, and a strong sense of belonging within our school community.

How We Will Achieve This Together

We believe that parents/whānau are our most important partner in meeting this goal and are committed to working with you by:

  • Monitoring and Communication: We will proactively track attendance and reach out early if absences start to become a concern, offering support.
  • Providing a Safe Environment: We will ensure school is a welcoming, engaging, and supportive place your child wants to be every day.
  • Collaborating on Solutions: If there are barriers to attendance (e.g., transport, health, or emotional concerns), we will work with your whānau to find practical, confidential solutions.
  • Following a Stepped Attendance Plan: Ensuring we have a structured framework that outlines a series of escalating actions and supports that we take in response to a student’s non-attendance.
