Principal’s News

Dear parents and caregivers,

Congratulations to the children who have been awarded a PRIDE certificate in the two weeks. It is always lovely to see our school values being used around our school. In the last little while, these children have been awarded a certificate: Jennifer Roh, Ashleigh Ohlson, Ella Williams and Claire Zhou.

Maths Week

Maths week was a big success at school! It was good to see the kids involved in daily maths class challenges, competitions and generally enjoying maths! Thanks to Jo Snowden for the organisation of this fun week in school for our children.

Date for the Diary

On Friday 15th September we will be holding a whānau afternoon as part of Maori Language Week. We will be inviting our community to come into our classrooms and share some learning with us. We will also have a short Kapa Haka performance to share. There will be a room set up to get some feedback around our progress with the school strategic plan and to ask a few questions, so I can look to ensure we factor community voice into the annual planning for 2024.

Covid Changes

You will have seen that the Government has announced the removal of the mandatory COVID isolation rule, which took effect on 15 August 2023. Public health officials have advised risk from COVID-19 is now considered low compared to other stages of the pandemic and it is safe to remove the final requirements.

The removal of the mandatory isolation period means we revert back to our usual school protocols around being ill.

We continue to ask you to keep your child away from school if they are sick! This includes flu, Covid and/or heavy colds etc. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

2023 and 2024 Enrolments

If you have a child who will be joining our school in either 2023 or 2024 can you please contact the office to begin the enrolment process. This is vital to ensure we can secure the best teachers for our school. With the well publicised teacher shortages it is important we know our numbers to help us secure the best available teachers for your children. If you know of any families through daycare or kindy that also may have children joining us in 2023 or 2024, can you please ask them to come and see us.

School Protocols

Thank you for supporting our health and safety protocols for adults on site. These are important so we know who is at school and to ensure the safety of your children.  Please do not go to the classrooms to pick up a child to go home early.

Please remember:

  • To drop any items to the office like a lunch box.
  • To call into the office if you are picking your child up for an appointment or to leave early. The office staff will then send for the child to meet you up at the office, this ensures we know who is on site at any time.

Community Connections

Greenhithe is a MITEY School

At Greenhithe School we are mentally healthy and feel a sense of belonging when we feel respected, valued and heard. Ideas and well being are valued, ensuring that everyone feels supported and appreciated.

Time is taken to build and nurture relationships.

Our students blossoming in our Friendship Area : Whangaia, ka tupu, ka puawai. That which is nurtured grows then blossoms.

Playing with friends and having fun!

Kaitiaki planting veggies and making habitats for our local minibeasts.

Our Mitey Mediators role play scenarios during training, ready to be on duty in term 4 on the Mitey Field and Turf.

Helping our local community, planting at Wainoni Park with the Greenhithe Ecology Network and the Auckland Council. It was a Mitey morning being outside among nature.

NORTHERN BAYS WINTER SPORTS DAY

Last Wednesday we took a team of Year 5 and 6 children to the annual Northern Bays Winter Sports Day held at Kristin School. We had such a great day with all of the children representing our school with great sportsmanship and skill. Thanks to the parents who transported the children and supported them during the day.

Congratulations to our netball team who drew 6 all in the final against Glamorgan Primary School. Our Hockey team coached by Neville Thomson and Gavin Murray  were runners up to Kristin School which was a great effort. Our football team coached by Phil Stevens came fifth and our Miniball team coached by Cam Harrison came 8th. Thanks to all of these coaches, you did a wonderful job and the children were lucky to have your expertise for the day. Here are some pics from the day.
